It has been reported that Margarita Papandreou, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday, has been admitted to the Attiko hospital late on Thursday evening after complaining of severe abdominal pain.
Mrs. Papandreou was admitted to the hospital’s cardiology clinic and has undergone a series of medical tests. So far the results have shown that she will not need any surgical attention and will be discharged later in the afternoon on Friday. Margarita Papandreou is the former wife of PASOK founder and former Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou and the mother of his son and former Prime Minister Giorgos Papandreou.
As an activist, the American-born Mrs. Papandreou formed and led the union of Greek women for eight years, helping improve the legal and social status of women by campaigning for the legalization of abortions and mutual divorces. In recent times she was implicated in the Lagarde List scandal.
