The International Monetary Fund held a board meeting on Monday, where the chief of European Affairs Poul Thomsen reported on the progress of the Greek program.

According to Mega Channel’s correspondent in Washington, Michalis Ignatiou, Mr. Thomsen appears to have stated that the IMF does not object to the Greek government’s different terms regarding the troika and bailout, so long as the memorandum of understanding exists. Mr. Thomsen explained that it was necessary, since Europe needs a framework that will ensure the implementation of the measures and reforms.

Regarding the list of reforms, Mr. Thomsen argued that the list generally covers essential issues and is an adequate launching pad for further discussions. He was quick to add thought that more serious matters have to be discussed and Athens will have to provide greater details on its plans.

Meanwhile, ANT1’s correspondent Thanasis Tsitsas claimed that Mr. Thomsen revealed that the overall divs of the Greek economy are not good, but avoided further elaborating, as the Greek government has not provided him with the necessary data. Mr. Thomsen was unable to determine the extent of the budget gap or growth rate.

Furthermore, Mr. Thomsen reportedly underlined that the chosen method of negotiation is not functioning, that there are gaps and that he cannot see how the review may be completed, in order to release further funds towards Greece.
