A fire which broke out on the deck of Hellenic Seaways’ High Speed 5, which was moored at DEI’s pier in Drapetsona, has claimed the life of one person. It has not yet been determined if the victim was a crew member.
The Fire Brigade’s 40 fire fighters and 13 vehicles are being assisted by a ship in order to help contain the fire on the deck so that it does not spread to the interior.
Early reports suggest that the fire broke out during maintenance work. The employees who were on-board the High Speed 5 abandoned the ship as soon as they noticed the flames.
