The Appeal Court of Athens has unanimously rejected the appeal of Vicky Stamati, wife of the convicted former Minister of National Defense Akis Tsohatzopoulos, for a suspended sentence.

Mrs. Stamati’s defense team argued that their client had suffered a huge psychological blow after her conviction and her strong desire to be with her child. Her lawyer Frangiskos Ragousis claimed that Mrs. Stamati has undergone six months of involuntary hospitalization and three alleged suicide attempts.

The bench prosecutor however proposed a rejection of the appeal, which the court accepted, arguing that conditions for a suspension of Mrs. Stamati’s sentence have not been met.

Mrs. Stamati’s other lawyer, Alexis Stefanakis, claimed that the decision was “unfair” and that his client was being persecuted due to her marriage to former Minister.
