The Deputy Minister of Finances Christos Staikouras announced that the government’s data indicates that there is a 970 million euro primary surplus in the first trimester of 2013, while in the mean time, outstanding debts and tax returns of 1.7 billion euros have been paid out.
In March the total sum of outstanding debts and tax returns was 7.9 billion and 244 million euros respectively (down from 8.1 billion and 723 million euros), demonstrating the effectiveness of the repayment efforts that began in December 2012.
The Ministry of Finances reports that it has achieved its essential goals in the first trimester, confirming that fiscal consolidation is well under way and on target.
