The Institute of Geodynamics at the National Observatory in Athens documented two earthquakes, measuring 4.6 and 4.2 on the Richter scale, in the early hours of Thursday morning, in the maritime area south of Ierapetra in Crete.

Specifically, the first earthquake measuring 4.6R occurred at 3:25am, with the epicenter estimated to be about 77 kilometers south of Ierapetra. The second earthquake measuring 4.2R occurred about twenty minutes later, at 3:47am.
