The Ministry of Health has announced that it will provide a building on Leros, formerly used for disabled people, to refugees on the island for temporary shelter.

In his statement, the Minister of Health Panagiotis Kouroumplis criticized the European Union for failing to handle the serious migration problem, while stressing that he idly cannot sit by and urged the European Commissioner of Health to rise to the demands.

Mr. Kouroumplis argued that the situation in Greece is “extremely difficult” and committed to finding a permanent solution to provide help the refugees, with respect to human dignity, human rights and the social cohesion of local communities.
