The Wittenbergen, an Antigua and Barbuda-flagged cargo ship, which is carrying about 3,000 tons of coal has run aground in an areas east of Kythira.
According to the latest reports, there is a minor inflow of water in the cargo freighter’s forepeak, however Coast Guard officials have noted that at present the ship is not in any risk.
An operation is currently underway to free the cargo ship and tug it to safety. The Wittenbergen departed from Turkey and is headed to Belfast.
