The four men arrested in relation to the tragic death of a 13-year-old boy and the serious injury of his 9-year-old sister at an amusement park in Elliniko will face felony charges.

The suspects – the Greek business owner, the Italian game leaser and two Bangladeshi employees – were initially addressed manslaughter and bodily harm misdemeanor charges, however the investigation has prompted authorities to upgrade the charges to homicide with possible intent and causing serious bodily harm.

The charges against the four men were upgraded due to the police report, which described the amusement park as completely “disorganized” and “rushed job” without any discernible hygiene and safety regulations in place. The police report states that an inflatable swimming pool was too close to a busy street and that there was no fencing to protect amusement park customers.

The funeral of the 13-year-old boy will take place on Tuesday afternoon in Argyroupoli, while his 9-year-old sister is expected to be released from the Intensive Care Unit, where she has been hospitalized since Sunday. The municipality of Argyroupoli-Elliniko has admitted to granting a permit for renting the space where the amusement park was set up, but stresses that it never issued a license for its operation.
