The proposal for the suspension of public funding for parties that are prosecuted for felonies will be included in the Ministry of Environment’s draft bill on renewable energy sources that is going to be discussed and voted upon today by the Parliamentary Assembly.
Minister of Justice Athanasiou clarified that the government intention is to expedite the vote and as such it was not included in the relevant bill for electronic surveillance of detainees and convicts, which is scheduled to take place in a couple weeks.
SYRIZA’s Nikos Voutsis submitted an amendment so that an enhanced majority (180 MPs) is needed for Parliament to approve the suspension of government funding, in cases where a significant number of prominent members are found guilty of forming a criminal organization.
