The Hellenic Financial Stability Fund (HFSF) has disputed reports that it requested the resignation of Piraeus Bank CEO Anthimos Thomopoulos.

In its statement the Fund argues that the bailout agreement includes provisions for a review of the managements of the country’s systemic banks. This review must be carried out between February and June 2016, with the support of an experienced consultant.

Rumors began circulating on Wednesday that Mr. Thomopoulos was summoned by the HFSF president Giorgos Michelis, who in turn asked for his resignation. In order for the bank CEO to be replaced, he must either resign or the shareholders may decide to do so after calling an extraordinary general meeting.
