After about three and a half years behind bars, the Felony Appeal Court has accepted the application of Vicky Stamati for release on bail. This was the seventh application filed by the wife of the convicted former National Defense Minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos, who has been convited for receiving bribes in relation to military procurement programs.

The court, which is currently examining the appeal launched by the convicted politician, adopted the prosecutor’s recommendation to convert Mrs. Stamati’s sentence. According to the prosecutor’s proposal, Mrs. Stamati will not be allowed to leave the country and must appear at her local police department three times a month.

The prosecution has also requested a 70,000 euro bail, which the defense claims that she is “unable” to pay, claiming that she is destitute. Upon hearing the bail, Mrs. Stamati left the courtroom in tears.
