A number of demonstrations and protests are taking place in Athens and other cities across Greece over the new austerity measures that are required by the institutions to negotiate a third bailout program.

Public sector trade union ADEDY called a 24-hour strike and has arranged a demonstration in Athens, with many unions and federations pledging their support, including the administrative employees of the University of Athens, local government and public hospital employees.

ADEDY has arranged a rally for 7:30 at Syntagma Square on Wednesday afternoon, while trade union front PAME has called a rally at Omonia Square at the same time.
