The Greek government’s main goal is to secure a sustainable agreement and in no case is it pursuing a rift with Europe, claims a report in Ta Nea, citing government sources.

According to the newspaper report, there are fears within the government that at attempt may be made from European circles to sabotage the negotiations efforts, aiming for a Grexit and bankruptcy. The same sources also argued that a major political battle is being fought.

Meanwhile, a number of SYRIZA officers are underlining that the government will agree to a sustainable agreement and that there is no chance of a return to the drachma.

SYRIZA’s parliamentary spokespersons Nikos Filis told SKAI that talk of a return to the drachma “is propaganda”. Mr. Filis also underlined that the government is faced with difficult decisions and that while it is considering harsh measures, it will aim to be provide social justice.

Furthermore, SYRIZA MP Dimitris Vitsas told Mega Channel that “the scenarios for a Grexit only lead to a split in the Eurozone” and underlined that the government is aiming for an agreement. Mr. Vitsas added that Greece is being “bullied” by “extreme circles in Europe”.
