In light of the referendum result on Sunday, Antonis Samaras announced his departure from the helm of New Democracy.
Mr. Samaras called Greece’s European partners to help the government, noting that «a sustainable solution is needed now«.
He also announced that Evangelos Meimarakis would temporarily assume the party’s leadership. Rumors regarding Mr. Samaras’ resignation had circulated earlier in the day.
