Following the conclusion of Wednesday’s emergency meeting at the Ministry of Finances, the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras commented that “we are in the final stretch, we are close to an agreement”.
Mr. Tsipras argued that “this agreement will redistribute the burdens” and noted that “calmness and determination are required”. He underlined that as Greece is negotiating with three different institutions, there are often conflicting opinions, approaches and political intentions.
As such, the Prime Minister warned that “many will try to create a false impression of risk” and reassured that his government is negotiating in order to secure stability for the Greek economy. He explained that in spite of the fearmongering and false news that the Greek economy is collapsing, wages and pensions are being paid out regularly.
The Prime Minister asserted that “we must close our ears to the Kassandras, to the alarmists. There is absolutely no danger for the wager or pensions, or for the banks and the deposits”. Mr. Tsipras concluded that “calmness and determination” are needed in the final stretch.
