The Minister of Justice Charalambos Athanasiou has submitted a last-minute legislative amendment, in response to the hunger and thirst strike of Nikos Romanos.

The amendment passed through in Parliament and shortly afterwards, Romanos’ attorney Frangiskos Ragousis, announced that his client has ended his hunger strike.

According to the amendment, prisoners who have successfully been admitted to an university course will first have to follow their studies electronically for the first third of their first semester.

Following this two-month period, the prisoners will then be able to apply for electronic tagging, in order to be allowed to attend their university studies on-campus.
