The “Greek Taxpayers” association has filed a criminal complain report against the Minister of Finances Gikas Hardouvelis and the General Secretary of Public Revenue Katerina Savvaidou for committing the crime of “repression”, as stipulated in the penal code.

Article 244 of the penal code provides that an employee who willingly collects taxes, levies etc that are not owed is guilty of repression and will face a minimum of three months imprisonment.

The association argues that while the 2014 budget provides 2.65 billion euros worth of revenue from the ENFIA tax, the Ministry of Finances is preparing to collect 3.2 billion euros, far more than what Parliament approved of when voting the budget!
