With open-air market retailers and producers vowing to continue their strike actions until the European elections, PASOK decided to vote against the Ministry of Growth’s controversial draft, causing a minor government crisis.
PASOK MP Michalis Kassis specifically argued that his party objects to the distinction between producers and traders, the draw process for the selection of new stalls and the reduced number of days allocated for fairs.
While the Minister of Growth Kostis Hatzidakis initially claimed that the regulations were mandated by the bailout, he later accepted that changes are possible and that the government will decide upon what is functional.
As such, the Ministry has backed down and accepted to compromise, in order to avoid creating a rift between the two government partners. The vote for the revised draft bill will take place on Tuesday evening.
