After weeks of debate and months of negotiations with the troika, the time has come for the bill that will ratify the changes which were agreed. A series of regulations will come into our lives, which will bring significant changes to the trade, production and distribution of various goods, as well as the operation of various professional groups.

Protective regulations that survived for decades are being abolished and overturning habits and disincentives that had been place for years, while creating new conditions for the operation of the market and consumers.

The changes introduced in many business sectors aim to make it easier to “open up” the professions and benefit consumers alike. It is a fact that in many sectors of the economy there were and still are anachronistic regulations that do not reflect present circumstances. Regulations which were imposed in different times, under corporatist and clientelist pressure, restricted business activity and undermined healthy competition.

The challenge of these changes is to yield the expected results, to truly boost the economy and to result in the production of more competitive consumer products. At the same time though, safeguards are necessary so that the new market does not result in uncontrollable situations and the decline of consumer protection in the name of the free market.

As necessary as facilitating business might be, it is just as necessary to ensure the quality of provided products and services that are essential for the people.
