On Tuesday the Ministry of Culture announced the results of the 2013 State Literature Awards, which covers work that was published in 2012.

The awards did not hold any major surprises, with Dimitris Raftopoulos receiving the Grand Prize of Literature, while Vasilis Ladas received the top award for promoting discussion of socially sensitive issues. The winners for 2013 are as follows:

Grand Prize of Literature: Dimitris Raftopoulos, for the entire body of his work

Novel Award: Niki Anastasea

Short Story/Novella Award: Yannis Palavos

Poetry Award: Markos Meskos

Essay/Critique Award: Michalis Chrysanthopoulos

Testimony/Biography/Chronicle/Travel Literature Award: Thodoris Kallifatidis

Newcomer Award: Christos Armando Gezos

Promotion of Dialog on Socially Sensitive Issues Award: Vasilis Ladas

The award committee also honored the magazines Paremvasi and Emvolimon for their immense contribution to contemporary Greek literature.
