The Deputy Minister of Environment Makis Papageorgiou revealed that the draft bill providing the split of DEI into two companies, the smaller of which is to be privatized, will be discussed in Parliament next week.
Mr. Papageorgiou explained that the new, smaller company will pave the way for private investors to enter the energy market thus increasing competition, in accordance with European directives. The Deputy Minister also revealed that various investors have already shown an interest/
Furthermore, the agreement for the TAP natural gas pipeline and the Southern Stream are of strategic importance to the government. The agreement means that Greece will assume a more prominent position as a stabilizing force in the region, allowing the country to play a greater role in the international energy market.
Additionally, Mr. Papageorgiou noted that a pipeline connecting Greece with Bulgaria as well as a new liquefied gas tank in Revihousa are also under construction
