The SYRIZA MP Giorgos Stathakis has clarified a statement he recently made about the bailout and the troika, as he claims that it has been misinterpreted and misrepresented by the media.

Mr. Stathakis explained that “the bailout and troika will end the day SYRIZA comes to power” and that “the only matter to negotiate with our partners is the loan and debt restructure. Part of the renegotiation is the suspension of paying interest until the economy returns to positive growth”.

The opposition party also responded to government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou, “whose comment is indicative of the government’s foolishness” and explained that SYRIZA has no intention in “negotiating” the bailout, as much as canceling it

In his original comment, Mr. Stathakis remarked that “we will renegotiate the loan, namely the terms and procedures of repaying the debt”.
