The Secondary School Teacher Union of Piraeus along with the Parent Association of Keratsini has arranged to demonstrate at the Public Prosecutor of Piraeus’ offices “against the persecution of students from the 2nd High School of Keratsini”. The local teacher union also announced a two-hour walkout so that teachers can attend the demonstration.

Last week, at the request of the Public Prosecutor of Piraeus, the police called a number of high school and junior high school students from the school for questioning regarding a number of crimes, such as damaging property, disrupting public peace and occupying the school. The police issued an announcement explaining that they were obligated to carry out the investigation and questions.

The Mayor of Keratsini and Drapetsona Lucas Tzanis condemned the occupation of the school, but expressed his support towards the school community, teachers, parents and students. The municipality issued a statement of solidarity where it expressed its concern about the threat of criminal liability and prosecution from the police.

The matter was publicized and mentioned in Parliament, with SYRIZA MPs Panagiotis Lafazanis, Theodoros Dritsas, Tasos Kourakis and Tzeni Vamvaka demanding from the Ministers of Education, Public Order and Justice to “end the persecution and harassment of underage students”.
