The unions of accountants and tax consultants have arranged demonstrations in Syntagma Square in Athens and by the Venizelos statue in Thessaloniki for Monday at noon, in order to protest the government’s tax policies and particularly the excessive tax fines.

According to the accountant and tax consultant unions, the new tax fines and levies introduced by the government are excessive and unrealistic, considering the impact of the financial crisis on taxpayer income and assets. Additionally the unions stress that the government plans on taxes will result in a collapse of entire sector and have a severe impact on taxpayers.

The unions have sent letters detailing their objections to the Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras, his deputies Christos Staikouras and Giorgos Mavraganis, the General Secretary of Public Revenue Haris Theoharis, the Minister of Growth Kostis Hatzidakis, the Inspector of Public Administration Leonidas Rakintzis and Parliament.
