The police announced the arrest of a 23-year-old man from Kazakhstan, who had been convicted in absentia to life imprisonment for the murder of two DIAS police officers in Renti back in March of 2011.

During the trial, the 23-year-old man had been found innocent for the robbery of a kiosk in Menidi prior to the altercation with the police in Renti. Due to a clerical error, the Korydallos prison management was not informed of the murder trial that was to follow and set him free.

The felony appeal court of Athens convicted three for the murder of the two police officers; two were found guilty of two homicides and six attempted homicides, while the recently-arrested 23-year-old was found guilty for abetting the crimes.

The police had been searching for the 23-year-old for about a year and was reportedly discovered driving a car belonging to his father.
