In the past month a total of nine people have succumbed to influenza in Greek hospitals, with four deaths being documented on Monday alone. Most of the deceased were over the age of 65 and suffered from underlying ailments (such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity etc).

According to assistant Professor of Pathology and Infections Sotiris Tsiordas, the victims had not been inoculated against the fatal virus, nor had they received medical treatment on time.

Mr. Tsiordas further explained that the seasonal influenza outbreak would peak in the near future and urged vulnerable citizens to get vaccinated as soon as possible and seek anti-viral treatment at the first symptom.
