After having to endure the hardship of queuing at tax offices on New Year’s Eve, which eventually led to an extension for road tax payments, taxpayers must now flock to the banks as the Ministry of Finances’ much-touted “taxis” network has crashed once more.

While the small extension until Friday undoubtedly came as a sigh of (brief) relief for taxpayers wanting to pay their road tax, the extension did not apply to taxpayers who want to hand over their license plates. This means that even though they do not intend to use their vehicles in 2014, they must still pay road tax or face a fine equal to twice the levy.

The Ministry of Finances clarified that tax offices would be open on Thursday and Friday for a limited number of emergency services, such as issuing tax clearance certificates and inheritance declarations.
