The former secretary of armaments Antonis Kantas has made serious allegations regarding the extent of corruption in the Ministry of National Defense and the armament deals for the Armed Forces, implicating political divs and shaking the political system to its core.

Kantas revealed that he had 10 bank accounts in Switzerland to receive bribes, while a prominent arms dealer set up two different off-shores at a well-known law firm in Monaco, in order to pay out brines. Mr. Kantas also specified a number of accounts in Dresdner Bank, UBS, Bank Hoffmann, BNP Paribas and other banks which were used in the shady deals.

The 71-year-old former secretary revealed that the supply deals were more or less set-up to serve specific interests, but in order to make sure that the deal went though, the former director of armaments Yannis Sbokos would take bribes to appoint specific people on the evaluation committees.

Mr. Kantas also referred to a case where the former leader of ruling party supported a different aircraft manufacturer than the one supported by the Minister of National Defense Akis Tsohatzopoulos. In the end, Tsohatzopoulos backed down under pressure. With Kantas scheduled to make further revelations on the extent of corruption in the Ministry of National Defense and the armament deals, the investigative prosecutors expect that more implicated people will step forward and begin talking.
