The trial for the arson on the Marfin store on Stadiou Street which resulted in the death of three employees and an attack on the “Ianos” bookstore on the 5th of May in 2010 during an anti-government demonstration has been postponed to 14th of May 2014.

According to the Misdemeanour Council’s ruling in May, one of the two defendants who was accompanied by two other men attacked the bank store with a Molotov cocktail, while the other defendant, who was accompanied by three other men, attacked the “Ianos” book store.

According to the court case, the two defendants were initially part of the same group of masked protesters who were armed with bats and hammers. The group broke into two smaller groups, which then attacked the bookstore and bank. The defendant accused of being implicated in the Marfin fire bombing faces charges of homicide and arson.

Both men are free until the trial, but face certain restrictions. The Council decided to allow the defendants to remain free after they stated their plea and the investigative judge and prosecutor could not agree upon detainment.
