The Minister of Foreign Affairs and government Vice President Evangelos Venizelos met with the President of the European People’s Party Joseph Daul, who succeeded Wilfried Martens.

As expected, the upcoming Greek presidency of the European Union was at the top of the agenda, with the two men also discussing the efforts to rally pro-Europe forces. Prior to his arrival in Athens, Mr. Daul expressed his admiration for the reform efforts of Prime Minister Samaras and stated that he did not intend to be a candidate in the upcoming elections of European Parliament.

Mr. Daul is also scheduled to meet the Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras, the Minister of Growth Kostis Hatzidakis, the Minister of Administrative Reform Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Minister of Public Order Nikos Dendias and the Deputy Minister of European Affairs Dimitris Kourkoulas.
