About 400 detained immigrants held at the Komotini detention center are refusing food and other essentials, in protest of the living conditions. Three of the protesters have sewn their mouths and demand that they be set free.
According to anti-racist group KEERFA, the detained immigrants began their protest after the detention center authorities stopped dispensing essentials for hygiene. The detainees had also complained about the quality of the food provided.
KEERFA notes that, under pressure from the police, the detainees ended their hunger strike. Three detainees however, Montazir Khan, Mohammed Neik and Sahet Ali, sewed their mouths shut and demanded their freedom.
Various anti-racism groups in Thessaloniki, along with KEERFA, are protesting the continued operation of the “concentration camps” and are preparing for a mass demonstration on the 15th of December.
