The Supreme Court is rumored to have requested that the parliamentary immunity of the six indicted Golden Dawn MPs, in order to be able to try them for a number of other crimes for which they are suspected.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders SYRIZA has requested that the Parliamentary Assembly takes comprehensive steps towards tackling Golden Dawn, while demanding that the government take the relevant political initiative. To that end, SYRIZA did not pose the matter of suspending the remuneration of indicted MPs, since that is a partial solution to the problem.

According to the secretary of SYRIZA’s Parliamentary Group Nikos Voutsis, his party “will not accept these matters being posed partially and fragmented” and that they should be discussed “politically and as a whole by the Assembly”. The opposition party also wants any parliamentary decisions to be tailored to the specific crimes that Golden Dawn is being accused of.

ANEL also agrees with SYRIZA on suspending the remuneration of Golden Dawn MPs, by explaining that the judicial investigation must be completed before Parliament can decide upon the matter.
