On Tuesday the European Court of Human Rights ruled in favor of Greek citizens Ioannis and Evangelos Fokas in their case against Turkey, in relation to an inheritance.

According to the case file, the Turkish authorities did not allow to the two Greeks, who live in Katerini, to collect the real estate inheritance of their deceased sister, who resided in Turkey, based on their nationality and reciprocity principle between Greece and Turkey.

The ECHR had ruled in favor of the two Greek applicants in September 2009, finding Turkey guilty of violating the right to protection of property. Today’s session determined the damages to be paid out, with the Courts awarding the Fokas brothers 5,000,000 euros in compensation and 15,000 in court expenses.
