ADEDY is holding a rally in Klafthmonos Square and PAME at Omonia Square, as part of the 48-hour public sector strike over the government suspension program and dismissals.The Metro station at Syntagma Square has been shut since 10am.

ADEDY’s executive committee will convene on Friday with the chairmen of its members, in order to evaluate developments and make a decision over the future of their strike action. ADEDY’s general council will then convene on Saturday to make its final decisions.

Strike updates

  • Secondary school teacher union OLME is current on a five-day strike
  • Primary school teacher union DOE is on a 48-hour strike that ends on Thursday
  • Public hospital doctors and staff are on strike until Thursday
  • Municipal employees (POE-OTA) are on a 48-hour strike
  • Unemployment agency and insurance fund staff are on a 5-day strike that started on Monday and plan to symbolically occupy OAEE’s central offices at 10am
  • Judicial employees are on a 48-hour strike
  • Public sector mechanics are participating in the 48-hour strike action
  • Employees in OSE, the Suburban Rail and the ports will walk out today between 11am and 3pm
  • Media employees stopped working between 9am and noon.

ADEDY has called everyone in the public sector to participate in the strike, stressing that 9,000 civil servants will be suspended in the next few days, followed by 12,500 in December, while 15,000 will face immediate dismissal.

The union is also critical of the government and troika plan to restrict services and employees by a third, while increasing the cost of services for the people. The cuts have resulted in the closure of hospitals, schools and other critical services.
