The Greek adventure at the 2013 EuroBasket in Slovenia looks like it is going to come to an abrupt end, after the national team lost 73-65 to hosts Slovenia on Saturday.

Andrea Trinchieri’s squad had a nightmare start and was trailing 27-43 in the first half of the game. The Greek team managed to balance the game a bit in the fourth quarter with Sloukas, Spanoulis, Bramos and Bourousis, however Bozidar Maljkovic’s side prevailed.

Despite the huge victory against Spain, Greece’s overall appearance in the competition was somewhat disappointing. Greece faces Croatia today and hopes that Italy beat Spain in order to progress to the next phase of the competition.

Even if that is the case though, Greek forward Kostas Papanikolaou suffered a severe sprain during the game with Slovenia. Mike Bramos is also being treated for minor pain in the groin area, but is expected to be on the bench today. Earlier in the week center Loukas Mavrokefalidis was forced to leave for Athens after suffering a second degree contusion.
