Next week will see the start of the latest «strike season», with a number of major strikes taking place in response to the government plans of suspensions and dismissals in the public sector.

On Monday, teacher federation OLME will begin a series of 5-day rolling strikes, with private school teachers going on a 48-hour strike on Monday, before deciding further action. The union of primary school teachers (DOE) will go on strike on Wednesday and Thursday.

The employees of insurance funds, the unemployment agency OAED and employees at the Ministry of Labor’s services will also go on 5-day rolling strikes as of Monday.

Civil servant union ADEDY has announced a 48-hour strike in the public sector on Wednesday and Thursday, with a rally taking place at 11:30am on Wednesday at Klafthmonos square.

Hospital doctors are also escalating their protests over planned hospital mergers and suspensions and will go on a three-day strike starting on Tuesday, the 17th of September.

ADEDY’s executive committee will meet with representatives of other public sector federations on Thursday to coordinate action, while on Saturday the General Council will convene to discuss future actions.
