Two recent polls indicate that opposition leaders SYRIZA is ahead of New Democracy. The first poll, conducted by Public Issue for SKAI, shows that SYRIZA has a marginal 1% lead over New Democracy. Public Issue’s poll also reveals the changes in the electorate’s preference from July:
- SYRIZA: 29% (27.5% in July)
- New Democracy: 28% (28.5%)
- Golden Dawn: 13% (11%)
- PASOK: 7% (8%)
- KKE: 6.5 (7%)
- ANEL: 5.5% (7%)
- DIMAR: 2.5% (3%)
- Other party: 8.5% (8%)
Regarding the victory projection, the poll shows that New Democracy (46% from 53% in July) is still considered the favorite, although SYRIZA has made a comeback (40% from 34% in July).
The electorate Antonis Samaras is still considered the most appropriate Prime Minister (35% from 41% in July), with Alexis Tsipras trailing behind at 31% (30% in July). 32% of respondents answered “none of the above”.
Regarding the European Union, only 43% had a positive opinion (52% in September 2012) compared to 55% having a negative opinion (44% in September 2012). This downward trend was also noted in the opinion of the euro, with 51% being positive (67% in September 2012) and 47% negative (31% in September 2012).
Pulse’s opinion poll
The poll Pulse conducted for weekly newspaper To Pontiki revealed that SYRIZA is ahead of New Democracy by 1.5% and that there is a significant percentage of undecided voters.
When asked of their voting intentions, SYRIZA garnered 20.5%, New Democracy 19%, Golden Dawn 13.5%, PASOK 7%, KKE 5%, ANEL 4% and DIMAR 3%. About 12% stated they would abstain and 10% claimed to be undecided.
By setting aside the blank votes and the undecided, the polls show SYRIZA first with 23% of the vote, New Democracy second with 21.5%, Golden Dawn with 15%, PASOK 8%, KKE 6%, ANEL 4.5% and DIMAR 3.5%.
