The Minister of Education Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos was interviewed by Vima 99.5 about the latest developments in education and attacked opposition leaders SYRIZA for using education to «overthrow the government”.

Mr. Arvanitopoulos claimed that Mr. Tsipras and his party members essentially asked from students to shut down the schools “for petty politics gains”. The Minister also claimed that there was no reason in exacerbating the tense situation with a strike.

When asked about problems, such as not enough teachers to cover all teaching hours, Mr. Arvanitopoulos responded that the problems would be solved within the next 3 to 4 days.

The Minister of Education stressed that “the schools must remain open and prepare the children, so that they can avoid this crisis”.

Regarding the upheaval in higher education, Mr. Arvanitopoulos claimed that the universities must go through and evaluation and streamlining process, in order to determine where staff is needed or in excess.
