The Minister of Growth Kostis Hatzidakis met with representatives of Chinese telecoms firm ZTE in order to discuss the possibility of investing in the development of a maintenance center, along with a transit and logistics hub.

ZTE is interested in establishing the maintenance center for the greater Balkan region by the end of the year, with hopes of it gradually servicing Europe as a hole. The Chinese firm has also committed to creating a research and development arm.

The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is scheduled to meet with ZTE Corporation Chairman Hou Weigui on the 10th of October and will likely finalize the deal. The initial talks between Greece and ZTE took place during Mr. Samaras’ trip to China earlier in the year.

According to the Ministry of Growth, the ZTE representatives were convinced to invest in the European market after the European Commission announced that it would not impose high levies on telecommunications equipment imported into from China.
