The new school year is destined to start with a strike, as the vast majority of local teacher unions decided to begin 5-day rolling strikes on the 16th of September.

The board of directors of teacher union federation OLME will convene on Tuesday to meet with teachers, while an OLME rally will be held at Syntagma Square in the afternoon, during the new high school vote in Parliament.

The Minister of Education Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos has clarified that he is not considering the civil mobilization of teachers, which was also confirmed by the government spokesperson Simos Kedikoglou.

Teacher union DOE, which has decided to participate in the 48-hour strike announced by civil servant union ADEDY for the 18th and 19th of September, will meet with OLME to discuss their participation in the strikes. The union of private school teachers OIELE has also announced it will participate in the strikes.

OLME called for popular support by publicizing two open letters addressed to parents and students, where they explain the reasons of their strike and what is at stake.
