The Ministry of Education has submitted a total of 51 amendments for discussion at the Parliamentary Assembly, where it details its high school reform plans.

According to the government’s plan for, higher education professors will see their weekly teaching increase by two hours, if their department deems so necessary. The bill will allow secondary schools to increase the number of pupils per class by 10% in special circumstances.

Regarding the examination system which will use a “exam topic bank”, 50% of the exam topics will be decided upon from a regional drawn, rather than relying on a centralized process.

Furthermore, teachers whose technical specialization was abolished to apply for work at the technical high schools of the directorate where they have been transferred for the 2013-14 school year.

The amendments also include many curriculum timetable changes and reorganization. So, for example, sophomore students will have a greater focus on Ancient Greek, while final year students will focus on Latin.
