The National Opera House has announced its celebration plans for the 15th of September, the 36th anniversary from the passing of Maria Callas. Modern artists will be performing some of Callas’ most iconic arias in the streets of Athens, the city where the talented diva grew up and made her first steps in her career.

Athenians will get the chance to hear extracts from the La Traviata, La Boheme, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Macbeth, Rigoletto,The Barber of Seville, Trovatore, The Sicilian Vespers and other operas performed at the Acropolis Museum, Herodion and National Archeological Museum and the Kotzia and Agion Asomaton squares. The event has been set up in such a way so that the audience can easily travel between the five venues on foot to enjoy the five mini concerts.

The Opera House revealed that soloists Dimitra Theodosiou, Antonia Kalogirou, Vasiliki Karagianni, Irene Karagianni, Elena Kelesidi, Tselia Kostea, Myrsini Margariti, Maria Mitsopoulou and Julia Souglakou will perform accompanied by pianists and the Opera’s orchestra, under the direction of theater art director Myron Mihailidis.
