According the Deputy Minister of Labor Vasilis Kegeroglou, funding from its Social and Professional Life Harmonization Program will increase the number of available places in nurseries to 65,00.

In response to PASOK MP Theodora Tzakri’s question in Parliament, Mr. Kegeroglou explained that 149 million euros have been secured for 60,000 children in nurseries. After discussions with the Ministry of Administrative Reform, a further 10 million euros will cover the cost of inducting a further 4,000 children.

The Deputy Minister noted that “the government has been especially sensitive about this matter, due to the difficult financial conditions, by greatly increasing the places in nurseries”. Mr. Kegeroglou added that 48,000 children were inducted in the program in 2011, with the div rising to 57,500 in 2012.

Mr. Kegeroglou also clarified that parents whose children are not entitled to a place in the program can enroll their children in the nurseries by paying the necessary fees.
