The Ministries of the Environment and Growth have arranged to meet at 5pm today in order to explore the possibility of setting up an underwater electrical network for the power supply of islands, through a Public-Private Partnership.

The Ministers of the Environment Maniatis and Growth Hatzidakis will be joined by their respective Deputy Ministers Papageorgiou and Hatzidakis, to discuss the options of funding the underwater power grid connection project.

The project could be inducted in the “EuroAsia Interconnector” program, which connects Greece, Cyprus and Israel and has a transfer capacity of 2,000 MW between the three countries. The project is listed in the European Union’s Projects of Common Interest.

The Ministers will also have the opportunity to discuss other common interest issues and projects, such as the issue of permits and the new National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF).
