According to the data on the work rates of tax offices publicized by the General Secretary of Public Revenue, in order to collect tax returns businesses must wait up to 877 days, approximately 2.5 years!

The data also reveals that there were 11,296 outstanding applications of VAT returns on the 16th of August, with a value of 1.04 billion euros. Despite these divs though, the situation is gradually improving, with the average waiting time reduced from 550 to 434 days.

The “slowest” tax office is that of Goumenissa in Kilkis, with the aforementioned 877 days wait, followed by the 6th tax office of Thessaloniki, where the longest wait was 824 days. A total of 4,733 applications took over 120 to be dealt with.

The tax offices with the most applications delayed for more than 120 days are the shipping tax office of Piraeus (944 applications), the PLC tax office of Athens (501 applications) and the large business audit center (396).

The joint speediest tax offices were that of Alexandroupoli and Paros (43 days), followed by Grevena (50 days). The greatest improvement was documented in Elefsina (up 45 positions in the relevant list), while the tax office in Kilkis dropped 80 positions.
