After the extensive media coverage and public outcry regarding the tragic death of 19-year-old Thanasis Kanaoutis during an altercation with a ticket conductor on board a trolley, many witnesses have come forward.

Of particular importance is the testimonial of two young women, who were friends of the deceased and happened to be present to similar events involving the same conductor a year.

The two women claim they were traveling on the same trolley with Kanaoutis, without tickets. When the conductor approached them, he simply told them to get off the next stop, in order to carry on with the inspection that ultimately led to Kanaoutis’ death.

According to the Kanaoutis family lawyer Areti Papanagiotou the two women recalled that about a year ago the same conductor had issued a fine to them, after they were caught riding the trolley without tickets. The conductor also had an argument with Kanaoutis, but did not issue him a fine or ask for his personal details.

Other eye witnesses have also reported that the 29-year-old conductor was known for exhibiting «unacceptable behavior» on the particular trolley service. The Police are carefully examining all witness reports, in order to determine the extent of the conductor’s misconduct and omissions, which caused to Kanaoutis’ death.
