The General Secretary of Civil Protection has announced that due to the strong winds, there is a high risk of wildfires (danger category 4) today in Attica, Evia, the Kyklades, Chios, Ikaria and Syros. Citizens are asked to be diligent and avoid any actions that could cause a fire in the countryside.
The Civil Protection has also issued reminders about the dangers lit cigarettes, outdoor barbeques and using tools that cause sparks such as saws and welding equipment pose to the environment.
Local and regional government agencies have been informed to be on alert, in order to respond immediately to any fires. In case of a fire, citizens are urged to contact the Fire Brigade immediately.
