The Ministry of Culture and Sport has announced that more than 100 archeological sites, monuments and museums all over Greece will be open on the 21st of August, for the last full moon of the summer. Visitors will be able to enjoy a series of artistic events, such as concerts, theatrical performances and tours under the romantic August moon.

The Minister of Culture Panos Panagiotopoulos congratulated the scientific and other ministerial staff and the Archeological Service for organizing and coordinating the events. Mr. Panagiotopoulos extended his gratitude to local government for supporting the event.

The archeological sites of the Acropolis and Sounio will unfortunately shut down at 20:00, for safety purposes, due to the restoration that is taking place. In Sounio, visitors can admire Poseidon’s Temple from the neighboring height.

Nine more archeological sites to open

The Ministry of Culture has announced that a further nine archeological sites and museums have been added to the list of sites that will remain open tonight.

These are the “Arouvigli” hill in Ierissos, the Ancient Agora in Philippi, the Courtyard of the Archeological Museums of Thasos, Kavala and Igoumenitsa, the archeological sites of Kali Vrysi, Platania and Elea, as well as the Byzantine Culture Center in Halkidiki.
