The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is scheduled to meet with the head of the State Department John Kerry today, before his meeting at the White House with US President Barrack Obama.

The discussion is expected to be focused on bilateral issues, as well as the general situation in the southeast of Europe and the Middle East, given the escalating developments in Syria and Egypt.

The Cypriot matter is likely to be on the agenda. Before traveling to the USA, Mr. Samaras spoke to the President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis.

Samaras’ visit schedule

In New York, Mr. Samaras will meet with mayor Michael Bloomberg, Archbishop Dimitrios, representative of Greek diasporic communities, as well as the UN’s General Secretary Ban Ki-moon. The Prime Minister will also visit the 9/11 Memorial.

In Washington, Mr. Samaras will attend a function of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and visit the editorial offices of the Washington Post. The Prime Minister will visit the White House on Thursday.

The main topic of discussion between the two leaders will be the economy and energy, considering the developments in the southeast of Europe. The Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew, National Security Adviser Susan Rice and Deputy to the President Caroline Atkinson will be present in the discussion.
